Greg Quinn left the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in June 2024 after 29 years of service. From 2015-2020 he was High Commissioner to Guyana and concurrently Non-Resident Ambassador to Suriname. From 2022 to 2023, he was Consul General Toronto, then Consul General Calgary and finally Political Counsellor Ottawa. His last overseas posting was in early 2024 as the Resident British Commissioner to Antigua and Barbuda. He also served in Estonia; Ghana; Belarus; Iraq; Washington; Kazakhstan and The Bahamas.
Greg has also held a number of positions at the FCDO in London, including Baltic States Desk Officer; Head of the UN Political Team; Deputy Head of Caribbean and SIDS Department and Head of the Caribbean Team; and a lead organizer for a UK-Africa Summit.
In these government positions, Greg worked closely to promote commercial interests of UK companies in their dealings with local governments and with leading companies in nations in which he was posted. These engagements ranged across a number of industries including energy, technology, security, infrastructure, defence and the service sector. Along with commercial promotion expertise, he offers significant experience in political analysis, conflict resolution and conflict communications.
Greg graduated with a degree in International Politics and International History from the University of Wales in Aberystwyth and has a Master’s in History from the Open University. Queen’s University Belfast awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in Law in 2019 for distinction in public services. Greg was awarded an OBE for services to British foreign policy in Her Majesty The Queen’s 2021 Birthday Honours.
He currently serves as the Volunteer Secretary at the GlenWyvis Distillery in Dingwall, Scotland – the only Community-Owned distillery in the country and as a member of the Governing Board of the Canada-UK Council.
