Dr. Bassant Hassib is a political scientist and cybersecurity policy expert specializing in the intersection of technology, governance, and security in the Middle East and beyond. She advises on critical issues including cybersecurity governance, digital economy regulation, AI risks and ethics, and the geopolitics of emerging technologies.

Currently, Dr. Hassib is an Assistant Professor of Political Science in the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) Programmes at the University of London branch in the European Universities in Egypt (EUE). She is also a Visiting Fellow at the University of South Wales and a member of the Global Partnership for Responsible Cyber Behavior at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies (RUSI).

Dr. Hassib has collaborated with leading global think tanks and policy organizations, including Chatham House, the Atlantic Council, the Wilson Center, and the Middle East Institute, where she has contributed expertise on cybersecurity, AI, and digital governance. She is a frequent speaker at high-level international forums such as the Global Cybersecurity Forum, Raisina Dialogue, and Abu Dhabi Strategic Debate, where she engages policymakers, business leaders, and security professionals on the evolving digital landscape.

Her work spans cybersecurity politics and governance in the MENA region, digital authoritarianism and (counter)surveillance, gendered cybersecurity threats, the geopolitics of cybersecurity, internet infrastructure and the digital economy; ethics and regulation of AI; military AI & cyber capabilities, and the securitization of cryptocurrencies. With publications in both policy outlets and top international journals, such as International Affairs, Middle East Policy, and the Journal of Cybersecurity, she bridges academic insight with practical solutions for governments, international organizations, and industry.

Dr. Hassib holds a Ph.D. in Euro-Mediterranean Studies from Cairo University, where her research focused on the role of the European Union in advancing democracy and human rights in Egypt.
