Laird Treiber is TSG Business Advisor. Prior to this position, he was a career member of the Senior Foreign Service in the State Department.

His career as a U.S. government official and now in the private sector has focused on energy policy and federal government action in promoting and funding new and renewable energy in the U.S. and internationally.

Mr. Treiber has worked on a wide range of energy issues on several continents, from supporting renewable energy projects; energy efficiency; electricity generation, transmission and distribution; and oil, gas and nuclear projects.

He was senior advisor to the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Energy, a position in which he advised on all non-nuclear international policy matters. At the State Department, he worked on a negotiating team promoting an international natural gas transportation initiative and helped design and sustain strategic energy dialogues with key producers, including Saudi Arabia and Iraq, as well as key partners like Turkey, Argentina and Chile.

Mr. Treiber previously served as the Economic Minister Counselor at the U.S. Embassies in South Africa, Turkey and Saudi Arabia, as well as earlier tours in Poland, Mexico and Washington.

Over the course of his career, Mr. Treiber has developed broad experience counseling U.S. and international companies on how to identify and take advantage of opportunities and evaluate economic and political risk.

He received a BS from Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service, an MIA from Columbia and a Master’s of Security Studies from National Defense University. Mr. Treiber is also a Senior Associate (non-resident) at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a major think tank based in Washington, DC.
